What Is VOID?
VOID is an experimental card game that blends psychology, storytelling, and interaction design to help players explore their inner world and interpersonal dynamics. It transforms abstract emotional concepts into tangible, playful experiences—designed not just for fun, but for reflection and connection.

Why the Name “VOID”?
In relationships, these “voids” show up as silences, misunderstandings, or disconnects.
Rather than ignoring them, VOID invites you to step into that space—to explore what’s hidden, unsaid, or unfinished.
It is not a place of nothingness, but a place of potential.
A mirror. A question. A beginning.
The name VOID embodies the game’s purpose:
To transform emotional avoidance into connection, and silence into meaningful dialogue.
-
“A Void” represents emptiness, the emotional blank spaces we often avoid confronting.
-
“Avoid” reflects our tendency to turn away from uncomfortable truths—our unmet needs, unsaid words, and unseen selves.

Brief Overview
VOID is an emotionally-driven card game that invites players to explore the gray areas of their inner lives and relationships. In a world obsessed with right and wrong, VOID uses visual extremes to metaphorically reflect emotional ambiguity, encouraging players to uncover unspoken truths, unmet needs, and the parts of themselves they avoid.
More than a game, VOID serves as a conversation catalyst, a self-awareness tool, and a social mirror—built on psychological theory and human connection.
Challenges and Solutions:
Translating abstract psychological concepts into accessible game mechanics
→ Created a layered card system (Emotion–Need–Scenario) and visual metaphors grounded in player experience
Balancing depth with playability across different age groups and contexts
→ Designed flexible usage modes and adaptable formats for education, couples, therapy, or solo reflection
Maintaining cultural and emotional sensitivity
→ Proposed regional packs and multilingual question sets, and finding mutual conflict/connection scenes and situtations.
Final Outcome & Impact
VOID enables players to say what they usually cannot.
Designed to foster deeper relationships and emotional closeness, the game invites players into honest conversations through perceived similarity, the feeling of being liked, and courageous self-disclosure.
Early testing in classrooms, podcasts, and workshops revealed VOID’s potential to unlock vulnerability, empathy, and shared meaning.
More than just a game, VOID acts as a shared language—bridging emotional distances one card at a time.
